Loré Loré!

Posted on 08 September 2017

It's time we introduced another little lady to the Friends of Theo Club! (If you'd like to apply, click through here and I'll consider your application. Just kidding, I accept all peoples so just click through and you're in!)

If you haven't heard me rave about Loré Loré Knitwear, just stalk my Instagram feed! I recently scored a spare ticket to the Garage Runway as part of Melbourne Spring Fashion Week and the only bad part about it was that I was already in the shop in my joggers and plimsoles! Long story short, the lovely Lorena waved her magic wand and before I knew it I was wearing a 'fashion-worthy' outfit complete with Lorena's own earrings, make up and hand-knitted turban. She's a giver and the sweetest Chilean soul you'll meet so take some time out to read up on her Maker Journey below! (And for her amazing work on my normally un-made face!)

Wearing Loré Loré knit turban, Lorena's own earrings, Theo the Label rib tee available made to order here, Lois Hazel drift pant available online here, Red Cross Op Shop thrifted black boots and the leather jacket I made for myself when I decided that was a good idea! Now to meet Lorena...

In a nutshell
I was born and raised in Melbourne, surrounded by family, food and lots of culture. I grew up with a strong connection to my Chilean heritage, and have been greatly influenced by the arts and craft imbedded in my roots. I come from a family line of creatives, so I was nurtured in my creativity and hand crafts from a young age. I studied a bachelor of textile design, majoring in knitting, then followed on by completing a certificate in small business management. I spent a few years in South Korea, where I gained a great and unique cultural experience that has influenced me in many ways particularity in my creative styling.

On business
After graduating, I continued to knit leisurely as industry was less practical and more so about designing from a screen. I would knit for myself and for gifting friends and family. I really enjoyed the craft of practical knitting and the hands on work it involved. After much encouragement from friends and family around me, I thought to make a small business out of it. The textile industry took a big hit and there wasn't a lot of work available, particularly in the area where my interests lay. I started Loré Loré after completing the NEIS program and my knitwear has evolved since then.

A typical weekday varies. As I work on my own, I carry out all the tasks that are involved in a small creative business. Most days start of with a strong cup of coffee and trend forecasting to kick start inspiration and motivation. I would then jump straight onto one of my knitting machines and begin to knit, whether it's completing orders, or working on new pieces. Trialling out new stitches, colour combinations or shaping. Sometimes I do a quick visit to my yarn supplier which fortunately is at walking distance, so my dog Buster usually tags along for a nice walk. A working day usually ends quite late, however I always make the time to spend with friends and family after leaving the studio.

A favourite childhood memory
I have quite a few as I grew up with many cousins and we got up to much mischief, however in context my favourite would be when my grandmother from Chile was visiting and staying with my family, I can remember we sat out in the veranda of my childhood home and she taught me how to knit. It's a brief memory, however I can remember everything about that moment.

Ideal 3-course dinner?
Okay, so I would begin with a charcuterie board as an appetiser, then move onto a good solid hearty main. I love food, and eat almost everything so there isn't any specifics that would solely satisfy. Finishing with ice cream for dessert would top it all off!

One small act you believe can change the world?

Caring. Living in an age where so many are self focused, showing someone you care and that they matter can go a long way.
